The Q4TDM Eurocup has just about finished up the group stages. While a-Losers and ic have to fight it out for the top spot, and to miss out on a playoff, in the fairly tight group A, they're both definitely through with sca taking third place. aAa dominate, northstars take second, and fnatic squeak into third place to move forward from group B.

Gunk, team 9, and triad proceed from group C, as do 4k, who didn't lose a map, un and pentagram in group D, which features notables in the losing portion in the form of 64AMD and Begrip. FOE, ess and T are group E's winners, while dignitas waltzed through group F, followed by mayhem and DIE. aCtion, woosai and SoL move forward from group G, while eye, mTw and tek 9 progress from group H, which saw rB finish finish 4th-5th, drawing with mouz.

Despite the cancellation of the Q3CTF cup, the groups have been decided in the remaining Clanbase Nationcups. For the Q3 TDM cup the UK, with Hamstahue and style heading things up, are in group A, along with Estonia, The French, Poland, and the Slovakians. The matches start next monday, with the UK facing France and the Slovak Republic taking on Poland.

In the Q4TDM cup, the UK is in Group A again, and so is France, again, but this time they're accompanied by Austria, Hungary and Portugal. The start date is the same, though the first UK match, versus portugal, isn't till the week after. Dozo is captaining, with a strong squad that includes deus, blunt, toogood, vorv, moz, r2k, storm, ddk and slu. I took a look at the portugese team list, which proved conclusively that I know nothing about the portugese quake scene, as I only recognised Bamout and eden from k1ck.

Q4Max have given everyone, bar the X-Battle team probably, an early christmas present in the form of 0.71 of their competition mod, as announced by swelt on their site. Lots of new features, including Clan Arena mode and Instagib, as well as performance options like vertext lighting, and lots of competition features including refs, warmups, overtimes, and automatic demos and screenshots.

The Q4TDM cup Jolt have been running as a precursor to the first season of the Q4DML finished up on thursday with Gunk walking away with first place. The semi finals saw Gunk knock out 4K, and LKFF defeat rB. Demos and Bif's shoutcast recording can be found in the files section of the league page.

Those results set up an all-Benelux final that was shoutcasted by myself, LKFF starting as very much the underdogs and not helped by a couple of ISP-caused disconnects though in all fairness GUNK were clearly the better side as the eventual scores of 195-100 (Edge) and 172-111 (Bloodwork) suggest. Overall it was a very strong showing by GUNK who went through the tournament without dropping a map, 4K's 31 frag defeat being the closest any side got to them and even that was aided by GUNK having a player disconnect during the final minutes.

The second beta of the promode-esque Quake4World mod is out now, with various bugfixes and tweaks. Find the mirrors here, or just grab it from levi. Mapping wise, GTKRadiant fans may be interested to know that linux-gamers is reporting that there is a Quake 4 Pack available from id, via subversion.

On the LAN front, there's still plenty of CPL Winter stuff filtering out, including some video interviews with Mr Wendel and the PMS girls, some galleries from zr0 and suj, and various columns on the event from sc00p and chaoticz among others. Closer to home, the Butlins Lan which Multiplay have been organising has been postponed til the summer. Those that have already booked do get a "1 year free Butlins pass for four people" though. Which is nice.

At this time the amount of sign ups does not justify running the event and so we have taken the decision to postpone it until later in the year. The proposed date is 30th of June at which time the resort will be fully open and all facilities will be available including all swimming pools, karts, amusements and other attractions and shows... We will keep you updated.

Finally, there's a couple of new sites about, in the form of QuakeScene.co.uk, which features a decent little strafe jumping guide, and Quake4.fi, which features, er, finnish.

The Clanbase Q4 1v1 open and eurocups are switching from the X-Battle mod to the Q4Max mod, with the opencup moving over during the groups stage, and the eurocup switching at the start of the playoff stage.

Our main motivation is to set a standard for Quake 4 dueling, in accordance with the CPL World Tour, so that duelers won't be divided between two mods for one gametype. However, as Q4max mainly focuses on 1v1, and X-battle is still a better mod for CTF and TDM (with features such as the teamoverlay, custom team colors, team commands, visible ready-status, etc.), the ClanBase CTF and TDM tournaments will keep on using X-battle.

In related news, all three cups (TDM, CTF, 1v1) are polling for what settings should be changed in the standard server config released a couple of days ago.

id and Raven have released a new map pack for Quake 4 just in time for christmas. The new maps (click for screenies) are Railed (q4tourney1), Tremors (q4ctf7) and most notably Campgrounds Redux (q4dm9), a moody remake of DM6. The pack weighs in at 23MB.

Possibly not a league that will be influencing CPL seedings, but the HQ TDM league wrapped up last night with BIG taking the top spot, 2 points ahead of LR and ES-Purple. BIG win the rights to display this magnificent trophy.
