Eurocup Finals Approaching
Written by Dr_Gonzo    Wednesday, 08 February 2006

The Q4 TDM Eurocup is down to the final four, after GUNK edged past Northstars. The winners of the two semifinal positions win a chance to go across the pond and compete against the winners of the Americup in a lan final. The first of the two games has already been scheduled, with Sweden's iC facing Sweden's FOE, on Saturday at 8pm GMT. After that it's straight-outta-benelux GUNK versus Sweden's aCtion, the latter clan having defeated dignitas in a close 3-2 game last week. Sweeper has a preview of the two matches on club fnatic, and according to Right on Clanbase, carmac should soon be providing another.

In the 1v1 Cup they're down to the last six matches. Probably the most anticipated showdown of the lot, vo0 versus cooller, didn't happen to due vo0 moving house and suffering from the lack of a competitive connection. Whether this will be sorted in time for his lower bracket match against winz from aAa remains to be seen, but I wouldn't be holding my breath. Unfortunately Jibo went the same way, putting av3k through to face please-stop-calling-me-a-q2-legend Purri. The winner of that match faces kazyuma from aAa, while ooze, who beat kazu last round, faces Cooller.

UK win back to back in Q4 Nations Cup
Written by Dr_Gonzo    Wednesday, 08 February 2006

Despite their late start the UK team have been storming through the inaugral Q4TDM NationsCup with victories over Portugal, on sunday, and Austria, last night. France are still leading the group, having similarly defeated Portugal and Austria, followed by Hungary, which secured the French a playoff spot. The UK faces France this Sunday, then Hungary the week after.

Group B has been lagging, with just the one game played so far, while in Group C Ireland have been suffering, with defeats by Belgium and The Netherlands. Belgium are solidly in first place with further victories over Estonia and Spain, and face the Netherlands themselves this weekend. Finally, Germany dominate Group D, with victories over Finland, The Czech Republic and Denmark, with this week's match seeing them up against the other main contender in the group, Italy.

In the Q3 TDM Cup, the Hammy's UK heros have rebounded from a dodgy start with a victory over Estonia in Group A. The losses against Poland and France have hurt the UK in the running for the playoffs, as even if Poland slip up against Estonia, and the UK defeat the Slovakian squad, they would be tied on 2 victories each. In Group B Sweden have been taking on all comers, with a victory, aided by ping, over Russia sealing their playoff position.

Jolt Q3CTFL Divisions Posted
Written by Dr_Gonzo    Tuesday, 07 February 2006

Sir Foot has posted the divisions for the upcoming season of the the Jolt Q3CTF league. He's plumped for four divisions of six clans, meaning just four of the new entrants made it into the league, with eleven left on the waiting list, including the mighty GRAND. The debate is still open on the 4v4/5v5 issue though, and competiting clans are welcome to weigh in. The start date is currently set to be the 19th of this month.

I'm sorry so the ten or so teams that have missed out but given our experiences of last season I really do not want to go to 32 clans only to be let down by numerous sides and have a default-heavy campaign. If spaces open up then we will look for replacements and to help in this any side that cannot make their Week 1 match will be immediately removed from the competition.

Opencup Results
Written by Dr_Gonzo    Tuesday, 07 February 2006

I haven't paid enough attention to the Clanbase Opencups this season, and now they're quickly coming to an end. The inaugral Q4CTF Cup finished on monday, with a victory for FOE over SCA giving them the trophy, though one of the three maps in the final, Q4CTF1, went just 1:0 in the Swedes' favour. Another german clan, sd, took third place, with the highest placing UK entrant being ACK, who took 4th place in the second division.

In the Q4TDM Cup we've still to see alien vs biber fighting it out for the top place, along with all the other divisions' winner and 3rd place games. Levi still have a shot at the bronze in the 3rd division, while the gundamz and ACK are both in contention in the 5th division, for 3rd and 1st respectively.

The Q4 1v1 Cup the group stages are over, and the trees are up for the playoffs, the first round of which should be played this week. All sorts of names are in contention, including Vorv and Appleseed in the premiere divison, with vast and dozo in the second division, and renrut, who I don't know, in the 3rd division. Dozo in fact has jumped the gun and is already through to the next round.

Proving CTFers do it quicker, the Q3CTF Cup is done and dusted, with MobacH again confirming themselves the dominant clan in Q3CTF, though affe stretched them to a five map final. Souls were similiary pushed by xQ, but eventually secured third place.

Finally, despite the relatively low turnout in the Q3TDM Cup, there was plenty of controversy, with both clans in the second division final reprimanded for breaking the rules. Still, the premier group final between dollz and miel produced some close games, though dollz proved too strong and took all three maps, and the cup.

TooGoood interviewed on GotFrag
Written by Dr_Gonzo    Tuesday, 07 February 2006

GotFrag have interviewed the man, nay the legend, some know as TooGoood. Apart from pimpin' his interweb extravaganza, jay talks about tournaments, dignitas, soundcards, monitors, and even offers up some tips for budding duellers (cooller plz stop reading these are secrets thx).

Try to utilize your time in front of the pc so you train but still have time for exercise and social life :) In addition, you must want to learn when you play, practice isn’t about winning, so see past the scores and try to train an aspect of the game

Thresh, of winning-a-ferrari and firingsquad.com fame (among other things) talks to ESR in a rather good interview about what he thinks of Q4, his opinions on the current crop of players, what he's doing now, and what happened to the ferarri. Worth a look.

Lukin Wins VIA-Doom3World Mapping Competition
Written by Dr_Gonzo    Thursday, 02 February 2006

The VIA/Doom3World mapping competition that has been running over the past couple of months has finished, with Lukin taking first place for his map Monsoon, which has been receiving a bit of backlash on ESR. Second place went to Mash-Up Streets by Method, and 3rd place to Evalia by Dade. There's a map pack coming that should bundle them all up in one convenient download, probably to be released tomorrow.

In other mapping news, inquake.de have an interview up with hubster. He makes some good points about Quake 4, in particular how not having a q4test is in part responsible for Q4's rocky start.
