John Carmack has been interviewed on the subject of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars' Megatexturing technology, which will also feature in the currently under-development id title. It's an interesting Q&A, if a bit techy, but worth a look for those interested in 3D engines. On the other end of the graphics grunt scale, Carmack has updated his blog with some thoughts on his second mobile game (after DOOM RPG), and developing for various phone platforms.

There's a fairly lengthy article over on GotFrag on the state of the UK esports scene. Admittedly it is in the Counter-Strike section, and spends a good page or so talking about 4K's CS squad, but there rest of it concerns the success, or lack thereof, of the UKs duellers, and that of various UK esports related businesses. Worth a look.

It is perhaps quite fitting that the success of the UK in business terms may finally lead to success in events. The success of Dignitas, Fnatic, Begrip, 4K has opened the door of possibilities to the likes of TooGoood, Deus and co. Now if the players have the talent they will get the backing and thus, resources, to compete in the major tournaments. The possibility of going professional in the UK is more of a reality now and it ever was in the days of Sujoy and Hakeem.

Next is Angel Munoz, who answers some questions over at fnatic. It's a pretty good interview, but does contain embarassing uses of tech terms for non-tech issues:

Finally, everyone's favourite Wendell, Fatal1ty, speaks to GGL about his recent win at the CPL, some of his rivalries, and his thoughts on Q4. I don't know whether he put quotes around the 'game names' or it was an editor at GGL, but I 'like' it.

I think 'Quake 4' will probably benefit me the most rather than him just because of my background at 'Quake 3.' But it also goes back to an aim-based game. And that’s my strength. So I’m like… finally, I get to aim again! (laughs) In PK, you could do crazy stake shots mid-air with aiming, it was so fast. It was mostly about movement, not aim.

Fox Sports have a piece on the 10 most feared people in sports, the ten people that are most "scary in the sense that you would not want to face them under any circumstances one-on-one". On the list are names like Roger Federer, Inzamam-ul-Haq and, of course, Mike Tyson in first place. At number two though is gaming's own Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel, who evidently has a good PR person. Thanks c58.

Big dog of the division 5 q3 rap scene, ShogZ, has regained his internet access and created an expression of his reconnection, in musical form. As usual, it takes a little while to get going, but features your regular daily quotient of quake references.
